    64-bit SID database

The newest versions of Windows have a 64-bit architecture and one of the changes is the way they handle databases.  Older versions of Windows used DAO while the 64-bit versions do not.  Since SID and the other versions at this website use DAO, users who upgraded their computers found they could no longer use the database.

Brett, our New Zealand computer programmer, has come up with an update that fixes this.  The update is only partially done - you cannot import or export illustrations yet, for example.  These fixes will come shortly.

This page gives details on the new version:  http://wiltonsoftware.com/labs/sid

This is the file you need to download:  sid_setup300.zip

Be aware that this file comes with only 10 illustrations.  If you already have a mega-database, you can keep all the content by doing the following:

    1. Before you install the 64-bit version, use Windows Explorer to go to your main data file, which is normally at C:\Program Files\Kerux Sermon Materials\SID\Data\Kerux.mdb; Rename the file to "Kerux2.mdb" or something like that.  [If you have already over-written the data file, download the mega-database again - password is kerux2 - and install it, then rename the data file.]

    2. Install the SID 3.0 update.

    3. Return to the directory C:\Program Files\Kerux Sermon Materials\SID\Data and delete the (small) file called Kerux.mdb.  Then rename the file "Kerux2.mdb" as "Kerux.mdb".  Your database will now have the original content.

An upcoming version will have the ability to import and export content like the original version.

    64-bit Access database (Kerux2010)

The newest version of the Access database is standalone, which means anyone can install it.  There are still a number of issues with it that need to be fixed but it runs well.  This version has many innovations -- sermons and illustrations are grouped together so you can do unified searches, you can format material right inside the database and you can configure many shortcuts.

    Summary of installation:

    1. Download and install Microsoft Access runtime
    2. Register online to get password to unlock database
    3. Download and install Kerux2010 database
(use the default directory rather than C:\Program Files)
    4. Close two warning screens that will appear at start of program
