Bible Abbreviations

Previous versions of the Kerux database had strict conventions - Bible references in the illustrations portion had to be precisely abbreviated while the main Bible reference for a sermon had to be spelled out, but the Secondary Reference field for sermons had to be abbreviated!  Some users never quite got the hang of this.

The 2010 version allows much more leeway.  If you don't like a standard abbreviation for a Bible book you can add your own in the Customization table [Main Menu > Maintenance > Bible Abbreviations].  Go to the third column, "Custom Abb." and enter your preferred abbreviation.  When you use the regular search function to look for a Bible verse and use an abbreviation, the references that use the full book name are also found.  In addition, the program ferrets out references and abbreviations that are hidden in the body of illustrations and sermons.

One of the conventions used in this database for Bible abbreviations is that books that have a single chapter, such as Jude, treat it as chapter 1.  Thus a search for the seventh verse in Jude should be entered "Jude 1:7".

No matter what abbreviations you use, it is a good idea to use the full Bible book name for the Main Reference of all your Sermons.
