The criteria on the Search Form are accumulative -- multitudes of illustrations are tagged with Romans 3:23, or have "sinner" in the topic, or "Baptist Press" as the source, but only two illustrations have all three together (see below, bottom left corner of the image).

At the top of the screen, below "Kerux Database," is the Menu Bar with File, Edit, View, etc.  Below this is the icon bar which represents various shortcuts.  You have to construct your own icon bar.  In mine, about two-thirds of the way through there is a funnel with an "x" through it - this removes an existing filter (that is what the search criteria applies to the database).  Four icons over is "Del" which deletes an illustration.  I changed this from an icon to an abbreviation because I don't want any confusion here!

On the form above the data for each illustration runs down the middle, from Topics to Bible Text and on down to the Illustration proper.

On the right hand side you can check off "Don't update" by putting an "x" there if you have modified a record and don't want my updates to overwrite it.  The "R" field represents records that replace previous ones at this number.  "T2" stands for "Typist2" and is one of those fields my associates and I use for keeping track of edits.

A very important feature is the Accumulate box below the record navigation arrows.  If you click "Accumulate" the current record is placed in memory.  As you cycle through records you can add more and more to the cache.  Clicking "Send" puts those records in Windows Clipboard and you can paste them in your word processor.  The "Copy to Clipboard" or "Clip" button on the left hand side also puts the record into the Windows Clipboard, but only one at a time.

"Rating" is your own subjective assessment of this illustration / sermon.

"Insert C:/1txt" is a shortcut I use for pasting in new material.  I save generic material with that filename and one click pastes it in the illustration form.  "Insert any file" allows you to specify a filename.

The bottom right group lets you increase or decrease font size, or change the font name within the illustration body.  This is a temporary fix; to do it permanently, turn on Design View and change the font of the field, then save the form.  Details are in the Help file.

Other features are not as obvious.  For example, you can do an instant search on the form by double-clicking on a word in the Topics field, or a reference in the Bible text field.  Such a search narrows down the records you have already filtered, so if you want to start fresh, remove any filters first (on the Menu Bar, click RECORDS, then REMOVE FILTER/SORT).  You can also do searches on this form by right-clicking in any field and filling in the "Filter For:" field.  (Those who have the Run-Time / Standalone version of Access cannot do this, unfortunately.)

The left hand side toward the bottom has key buttons like "Search Screen" and "Go to Sermon Form".  Clicking them closes this form and takes you to the corresponding one.  You can also change the screen resolution of your form here.

Click the "Go to Sermon Form" button and you should see this:

The features are similar to the illustration form.  Notice the List  button.  After you have narrowed down your records, click this button and a table lays out relevant data.  This is a good way to cruise through a bunch of sermons for just the one you want.

Notice the two ID numbers on the right hand side.  These numbers are very important for this database (and difficult for beginners to grasp).  The Kerux ID is a number that is used for this sermon by all Kerux users around the world -- the updates at the website rely on this.  The number below it is your personal number for this sermon.  When you add your own sermons the Kerux ID should be blank but the personal ID will increase incrementally.
