Holwicks in the Wind River Wilderness, Wyoming, 2003, page 2

Jackass Pass, below, let us know we were at high altitude.  We lost the path in the huge boulders filling the pass but there was really only one direction to go.  We just took the harder direction.  Note the small figures in the middle.

If we had known better, this is where we would have set up camp the first night in the wilderness.  It is North Lake and it has a beautiful setting.  The rough landscape is evident.

But we pressed on until we reached the Cirque of the Towers, seen on the left.  Actually, we are just one low ridge away from the Cirque but no one except Dad wanted to take another step.  This was our "Korah's Rebellion" where with one voice they said, "You have gone too far!" (Numbers 16)  Let it be known that David was the only Holwick to gaze at Lonesome Lake and get the Rand McNally World Atlas perspective.

We set up our tent as far off the trail as we could.  It was not easy - everything that is flat has a trail on it.

Next, storm in the wilderness...
