2005 Holwick vacation to the Southwest, page 3

Molas Pass is just below Silverton, Colorado, on the Million Dollar Highway.  It is a popular section of the Colorado Trail and is our family's favorite hiking destination.  The views are incomparable and wild flowers are abundant in late summer.

The Trail goes all the way through the state but we limited ourselves to around 12 miles of it.

The lack of trees makes for good vistas.  The water is tasty, too.

We got the best campsite on the trail.  It is used by pack trains most of the time.  There aren't too many flat places in this area.  We stashed our food on top of a huge boulder.

The deer are very friendly.

These cowboys were traveling to their ranch on the other side of the range.

The wild flowers have always been beautiful when we've hiked Molas.

Somewhere beyond this point is an amazing waterfall.  Both times it has been our goal.  But at this point we were too tired to care.  Perhaps the third time will be the charm...
